How to know when you REALLY need Emergency Care
It is better to call than not to call if you are worried about your animal. Your animal may need medical attention due to trauma–caused by accident–heatstroke, choking, animal bites, poisoning, or other life threatening situations. We are here to give you some signs and symptoms that emergency care is needed:
Fever over 103.5 (rectally)
Vomiting duration over 4-6 hours
Constant diarrhea x 1 day
Seizures (constant) OR 1 seizure lasting over 5 minutes
Difficulty standing
Rapid breathing
Weak or rapid pulse
Loss of consciousness
Excessive bleeding
Paralysis
First Aid Treatment to Perform At Home
Emergencies require immediate veterinary care, but there are first aid steps that may help stabilize your pet before transportation.
Excessive bleeding due to trauma, apply pressure to the wound.
If your pet is choking, open there mouth and see if you can remove the blockage.
Consistent vomiting and diarrhea, stop all foods and liquids
Suffering heatstroke, wrap your pet in a cold wet towel for transport.
