The past few weeks we have had a lot of wildlife come into the clinic, especially orphans such as squirrels foxes, racoons, opossums and owl. We are the only veterinarians in town that have a wildlife rehabilitation license. This means we take care of the orphans or injured animals by rehabilitating them with the goal to release them back into the wild. We often have people ask if they can foster these animals. The answer to this question is no. These animals can carry rabies, lice, parasites and other diseases. The people who care for these animals have the training on how to care for and handle them. They also have a rabies vaccine. The best way people can help the wildlife is to donate to the wildlife fund.
